Report: Chris Mullin to take Job in Kings Front Office

Marc Stein of ESPN is reporting that Golden State Warriors’ icon Chris Mullin is set to join the Sacramento Kings front office.  Mullins is a Hall of Fame player best known for his time in Golden State, and also a former Warriors GM.  Mullin will reportedly be a senior advisor to new Kings general manager Pete D’Alessandro and majority owner Vivek Ranadive.

Mullin has a working relationship with Ranadive who was a former minority owner of the Warriors.  In fact Ranadive has stated that he made the hire of D’Alessandro on the strong recommendation of Mullin.  D’Alessandro gained his previous NBA front office experience after getting his break in the NBA when he was hired by Mullin, while Mullin was running the basketball operations for the Warriors between 2004-2009.

Mullin is currently working for ESPN as an NBA analyst after he was ousted from the Warriors following a power struggle with Don Nelson.

The 50-year-old Mullin spent 16 years as an NBA player, 12 of wich were spent with the Warriors.  He averaged 18.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game over his career.  He was a member of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics “Dream Team” winning a second Olympic Gold Medal, to add to the Gold he brought home from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.  Mullin was a 5-time NBA all-star and his number 17 is retired by the Warriors.

The move is expected to be made official in a press conference later this week.
