Mid-Week Giants Report: Cruz, JPP "Full Speed Ahead" for Opener Against 'Boys

Some Big Blue-related tidbits as the dawn of the 2013 NFL season kicks off in Denver on Thursday night…

From the Files of the Walking Wounded: The Giants were hoping to have both Victor Cruz and Jason Pierre-Paul ready to go on Sunday night against the Cowboys, and it sounds like they may get their wish.

“They’re full speed ahead,” according to Giants coach, Tom Coughlin.

This is great news considering the the rest of weekly injury report reads more like a war-torn infirmary.

While most of the names aren’t a surprise, it’s the sheer volume of players who may not be ready to play on Sunday that could potentially derail a Giants team that can still be considered a serious Super Bowl threat. But after a particularly rough preseason, their fortune hasn’t been anything to feel giddy about.

If there’s good news on the injury front, it’s that Andre Brown has been placed on the short-term injury-reserve list that will allow him to have his season debut week eight in Philadelphia. Defensive end Adawale Ojomo, whom teammates once nicknamed “Little Osi,” was called up from the practice squad to temporarily take Brown’s roster spot.

But as long as Eli is upright, Giants fans can take comfort in that he’s always there no matter the level of fragility of his teammates. He covers a lot of ills.

Behind Enemy Lines: Six-time Pro-Bowler and future Hall of Fame guard Brian Waters finally decided to play one more year, signing a one-year, $1.5 million deal with Dallas. For a Cowboys team that hasn’t had a very good offensive line for several years, this is a gift to the likes of Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray.

Final Word: At first glance, these two teams seem to be trending on divergent paths. But I just trust Eli more than Romo to not make the crippling mistake. I cannot wait to get this thing rolling! Giants will start the season off right, 35-31.
