Adam Henrique signs 6-Year $24 Million Contract with the Devils

The New Jersey Devils have locked up an important piece of their future, signing restricted free agent centre Adam Henrique to a 6-year $24 million contract ($4 million AAV).

Henrique, a 2008 third round draft choice has spent the last two seasons with the big club. In 2011-12 he scored 16 goals with 35 assists for 51 points and was a finalist for the Calder Trophy. He also scored the game 6 overtime goal to eliminate the archrival New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Finals, and send New Jersey to the Stanley Cup Championship.

Last year’s shortened season was a bit more of a struggle for Henrique and the Devils as he put up 11 goals and 16 points in 42 games before his season ended with a broken thumb. The Devils would miss the playoffs.

Henrique has spent his entire career with the Devils.

Its been an interesting offseason for the Devils who have seen David Clarkson leave in free agency, and Ilya Kovalchuk flee the team (via retirment) for the KHL.  It has also seen the sale of the club after Jeff Vanderbeek was on the verge of defaulting on his loans.  Finally with this commitment to Henrique the Devils get some good news as training camp is quickly approaching.
