Gareth Bale, you might of heard of him, the Welsh bloke who plays for Tottenham Hotspur FC, has been rumored to become a Real Madrid player. For now he stays as Lilywhite as ever. But I wonder, could Tottenham get back into the Champions league without Gareth?
Bale was on fire last season scoring 26 goals in all competitions with 9 outside of the box. He was simply unplayable and saved Spurs in many games, the most memorable being the late showstopper from 30 yards away to West Ham. Last season without Gareth, Spurs probably could have dropped a few points – in fact, I’m certain they would have. Everton finished 10 points below, so I doubt that Tottenham would have sunk that far without him.
So, onto the big question. Is it gonna be all doom and gloom when Gareth leaves, or are Spurs going to still be okay?
Well, with the recent signings of Roberto Soldado and Paulinho, two great singings, I still think Spurs are a threat without Bale. Are they a big enough threat to challenge for the Champions league? That is a debatable one. Bale is a big cog at Tottenham, who gets the cogs of the other team members turning. Good players bring out the best in other players right? Bale is sometimes what we need to power through a steadfast defence, where by sitting back and trying to not concede, they just allow Bale to create a little space and slam it home for distance.
Sometimes, when the Lilywhites are playing Defoe up front, his size isn’t the best to struggle against the bigger defenders and Spurs don’t end up getting a goal, when teams park the bus. However with Soldado now in the ranks, and with a possible midfield of Paulinho, Sandro Raniere, and Mousa Dembele pushing him forward, maybe Spurs could cope without Gareth?
Spurs play Crystal Palace away on the 18th of August without Gareth (and also Vertonghen) so we will see this question answered perhaps – if not completely, at least a glimpse. When Spurs start playing the ball around, with pace and style distributing it and the defence stretching wings of Chadli and Lennon, getting the ball into the likes of Soldado, well that’s a pretty potent threat.
Bale isn’t at all certain to leave yet, but he is injured. So for Tottenham’s sake, get fit soon Gareth! The transfer window still open means that Gareth isn’t staying at home yet, but it doesn’t mean he’s definitely going either. If Bale stays, Spurs can really challenge for the Champions league, and perhaps even higher than that. If he goes, could it still be possible? What further replacements would Spurs bring in this late in the window with the money?
Time will tell.
