Report: Bobcats and Gerald Henderson Agree on 3 year Deal

According to a story first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, and now confirmed by many others; The Charlotte Bobcats have agreed to a three  year deal with shooting Gerald Henderson worth $18 million.  The third year of the deal is a player option.  Full details of the contract are still being worked out, but it is expected that the

Re-signing the 25-year-old Henderson, the Bobcats pick at 12th overall in the 2009 NBA draft, was a key priority for the team this offseason.  He comes back to be a perimeter threat for a revitalized Bobcats team that added to its inside game with 2013 4th overall pick Cody Zeller, and free agent signee at centre Al Jefferson earlier in the offseason.

Henderson averaged 15.5 points per game, and shot 44.8% from the field last season.  He was the Bobcats’ second leading scorer, behind only Kemba Walker.  He added 3.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game for the Bobcats.  The 4 year NBA veteran played his best basketball of his career down the stretch averaging 23.9 points per game and shooting 48% from the field over the season’s last 23 games.  He has spent his entire career with the Bobcats.

The deal ensures that Henderson is a piece the Bobcats can build around in at least the next two years.  For the 2014-15 NBA season, they will be changing their name to the Charlotte Hornets, repatriating the name back to the city.
