For Josh Brent, he’s got bigger things on his plate these days than NFL football, and so with the eve of NFL training camp just around the corner, the Dallas Cowboys Defensive Tackle has decided to retire from football in order to focus on those bigger things.
As has been well reported, Brent is preparing for his trial on intoxication manslaughter charges for the car accident last season that claimed the life of teammate Jerry Brown.
Brent has been under severe bail conditions since that time, and his failure to stay clean and sober has landed him in jail at times. Currently out on bail, Brent’s main focus must be on helping to prepare the defense in what will certainly by a high profile circus like trial, instead of playing football in the heart of the Cowboys defence.
The issue of Brent continuing to be on the Cowboys roster, and the fact that they had not cut him was becoming an issue. However today’s announcement takes a lot of pressure off the team going into training camp, and makes things a lot easier for those who remain part of the organization.
