The Boston Bruins have locked up their restricted free agent goaltender Tuukka Rask to an 8 year, $56 million contract. The contract means that at $7 million per season, Rask will have the highest cap hit of any goalie in the NHL, tied with Pekka Rinne.
In 2013, Rask went 19-10-5 with a .929 save percentage during the regular season. His .940 save percentage in 22 playoff games was tops amongst all starters and helped the Bruins make it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final where they would fall to the Chicago Blackhawks in 6 games. Rask was considered a favorite for the Conn Smythe Trophy if the Bruins were able to win the cup.
Rask was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He was traded to the Boston Bruins at the 2005 draft in exchange for Andrew Raycroft.
Rask took over the starting job in Boston last year, when Tim Thomas decided to take the year off.
