Verdict: Alcarez is going most likely be depth and back-up for our two stellar center backs Jagielka and Distin. He’s an experienced campaigner and someone you’d want as back up on your squad. He’ll most likely feature in cup matches, possibly alongside Duffy. He’s received much praise from Roberto Martinez, who even went as far as to say that Wigan would not have been relegated had Alcarez been fit the whole season. All in all, needed depth has been added with his signing.
Joel Robles
Previous Club: Atletico Madrid
Fee: 5-year, undisclosed fee
Nationality: Spain
Age: 23
Statistics
Games Played Club Career: 51
Games Played International Career: 5
Verdict: This is definitely going to be one of the more interesting signings of the window for Everton. A young, promising goalkeeper with a FA Cup Final start, win, and clean sheet already under his belt. Replacing Al Habsi is no easy feat, as the Omani keeper is one of the better keepers in the league. Tim Howard isn’t getting any younger, and to see Martinez realize this and take action on the situation speaks volumes about our manager’s decision making. Robles will most likely get starts in the cup games we play, but Howard will definitely have a fight for his position on hand if things start to go sour for the American.
