David Price to Pitch Tuesday

Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon announced Friday that last year’s AL Cy Young winner David Price will be taken off the disabled list and will start for the Rays on Tuesday at Houston.  Price has been out of action since May 16th with a strained left triceps muscle.  He has made a couple of recent rehab starts in the Class A.  Maddon explained;

“There’s no reason to have him throw those 90 pitches (in the minors).  He was adamant that he feels great. The medical staff feels good about it.”

Last season Price went 20-5 with a 2.56 ERA in winning his first Cy Young award.  However, the Rays ace has struggled so far this season with a 1-4 with a and 5.24 ERA.

”Just go out there and really almost start all over again,” Maddon said.‘It’s not like he’d been throwing the ball badly, he was not, but the results just weren’t there for him overall.”

The Rays got further good news when right handed starter Alex Cobb was able to play catch with teammates on Friday.  He has been out of action since a scary incident on June 15th when he was hit in the head by line drive hit by Eric Hosmer.

The Rays currently sit in 4th place in the American League East, however they are just 6 games behind the first place Boston Red Sox.
