Having not fought since December 2015, Paige VanZant is set to make her return to the octagon at UFC on Fox 21 in Vancouver, BC, where she will meet Bec Rawlings in an important fight for both VanZant and the strawweight division.
Paige VanZant Return Has Everybody Talking
Since her loss to Rose Namajunas, we have not seen VanZant (in the octagon that is). For those of you that were paying attention, VanZant danced her way to a second place finish on the most recent season of Dancing With The Stars (DWTS).
That stint on DWTS is something she claimed that she needed as a break from the UFC and to refocus her mentality in the Octagon. This idea is nothing new. We have seen many fighters take extended periods of time off to either step away for a personal reason or just to simply refocus.
However, of course when a fighter takes an extended period of time off, the question becomes: Was it time off well spent? According to VanZant her time off was well spent.
As stated earlier, we have seen this idea of taking time off to refocus before.
After her loss to VanZant, Felice Herrig took some time over a year off claiming that she needed to refocus and step away from the sport for a little while. Obviously her time off was well taken because she came out and dominated Kailin Curran at UFC Chicago back in July en route to gaining a first round submission victory.
It does appear though that “12 Gauge” is ready to go to war. Just take a look at what happened at weigh-ins.
However, Rawlings may have something to say about this fight. She comes in riding a two fight winning streak looking to get back into the rankings in the women’s straweight division.
Will Paige VanZant’s time off prove to be the right move?
