Miami Marlins Acquire Jeff Francoeur

In the midst of a close race for the final National League Wildcard, and missing Giancarlo Stanton, the Miami Marlins have made a move. The Marlins have acquired outfielder Jeff Francoeur from the Atlanta Braves in a three team deal that also included the Texas Rangers.

The Braves send Francoeur and just over $100,000 in cash to the Marlins. The Braves get minor league infielder Dylan Moore from the Rangers and minor league catcher Matt Foley from the Marlins. The Rangers obtained two international signing slots from Miami and one from Atlanta.

”It’s hard. He’s a great kid. He’s one of the finest human beings I’ve ever been around,” Braves interim manager Brian Snitker said to the Associated Press. ”We’ll miss him. He’s going to play meaningful games, good for him.”

The 32-year-old Francoeur leaves his hometown Braves. He was hitting .249/.290/.381. with seven home runs and 33 RBIs in 257 at-bats and 276 plate appearances entering Wednesday. He made the team after attending spring training on a minor-league try-out.

Moore, 24, hit .263 with 14 homers and a .377 OBP this season in 118 games at two Single-A levels. He mainly plays short stop, but has been incredibly versatile, playing every position except catcher.

Foley, 22, hit .257 (9-for-35) with no extra-base hits, six walks and 11 strikeouts in 14 games in rookie league and short-season A-ball this season.
