Georges St. Pierre’s is one step closer to making his return to his octagon upon revealing he has been entered into USADA’s testing pool as of Wednesday.
St. Pierre (25-2-0) broke the news in an exclusive interview with Israeli journalist Ram Gilboa, in which he stated he is to begin the testing process, administered and monitored by the United States Anti-Doping Agency, immediately.
Georges St. Pierre Comeback Inches Closer
“I don’t want to be an exception, because I was very outspoken about performance-enhancing drugs. It would be bad for my reputation if I would have an exemption – I don’t want to have a free pass, I want to be like everybody else. That’s why I’ll be starting the process Aug. 10,” St. Pierre said.
Fighter’s not currently in the testing pool are required to submit to four months of random testing, prior to being cleared to fight, making St. Pierre eligible to return just in time for the UFC’s year-end card in December, a little over three years since his last octagon appearance.
No official date has been set, however; the former UFC welterweight kingpin is confident that he will make his return to the octagon.
“I don’t have any fight yet, but it’s gonna (sic) happen now, because I’m getting tested, if I’m getting tested it’s for a reason.”
Though he hasn’t yet settled on an opponent, GSP did confirm that a superfight with Michael Bisping was in fact in the works, with “The Count” ultimately choosing to try and avenge his loss to Dan Henderson instead.
“The first offer they made us was for Bisping. We were interested in that fight, we made a counter offer, but like I said one day after we heard they sold the company. Bisping was already a world champion. They asked us if we wanted to fight in Toronto, I don’t remember if it was the Rogers center or the Air Canada center, but it was to be Bisping.”
St. Pierre hasn’t fought since UFC 167 in Nov. 2013, where he edged out Johny Hendricks to retain his welterweight title, before announcing an indefinite hiatus from the sport in his post-fight interview.
