On Saturday, the first day of the Kansas City Chiefs training camp, ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news that the Chiefs and starting left tackle Eric Fisher reached an agreement on a four-year contact extension worth $63 million that also includes $40 million guaranteed.

Kansas City Chiefs Extend Eric Fisher With Four-Year, $63 Million Contract
Chiefs General Manager John Dorsey praised Fisher for his leadership on the offensive line as he enters his fourth season:
“In three seasons he’s grown significantly as a football player in our system. He’s a tough, physical presence and a leader on our offensive line. We look forward to keeping him as a part of our organization and community.”
Entering his fourth season, Fisher has made 46 appearances for the team that drafted him first overall in 2013. Of those 46 appearances, 43 have been starts. Fisher’s career started out with a lot of question marks, as he struggled to live up to the lofty expectations that go along with being a number one overall pick. In his second season, Fisher moved back to the left side of the Chiefs offensive line and started to progress and show true promise. In 2015, Fisher was a leader and really settled in as an efficient, NFL-caliber left tackle.
The extension adds four years to the two years remaining on the contract signed by Fisher before the start of his rookie season. The $63 million deal makes Fisher the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL. Fisher played in college at Central Michigan University where he earned first-team All-American honors. Fisher was the first ever player from the Mid-American Conference to be drafted first overall.
Now the Chiefs can turn their attention to Dontari Poe, who becomes a free agent after the 2016 season, and All Pro safety Eric Berry, who has yet to sign his franchise tag designation.
