Pete Carroll Signs Extension with Seattle Seahawks

Pete Carroll is currently the oldest head coach in the NFL at the age of 64 years and 315 days.

Carroll coached for various collegiate teams in his earlier years. His first NFL job came when he started as defensive back’s coach for the Buffalo Bills in 1984. His first head coaching gig was for the New York Jets in 1994, and he went on to coach in minor positions for the Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, and New England Patriots.

Carroll returned to coach at the collegiate level when he signed on as the head coach of the University of Southern California football team in December, 2000. During his time with Southern California, he had a winning percentage of nearly 85%, and led the team to various bowl games and multiple national championships. Carroll left the team in 2009.

Carroll initially signed a 5-year contract with the Seahawks in 2010. Since then, he’s led the franchise to playoff-bound seasons in all but one season. With the Seahawks he’s won two NFC championships. Carroll helped lead the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl win ever in Super Bowl XLVII when they beat the Denver Broncos 43-8The following year they went on to lose Super Bowl XLIX 28-24 against the New England Patriots in a controversial last second fourth-quarter play.

Pete Carroll is arguably the best head coach in the NFL right now considering his success in Seattle. His extension joins general manager John Schneider, who signed an extension himself this week through the year of 2021. The two have been dubbed a two-man powerhouse among the league, as they’ve garnered praise for their ability to compile a stellar roster.

Pete Carroll is determined to lead the Seattle Seahawks to their fourth Super Bowl appearance very soon.
