Former Clemson Tigers guard Demontez Stitt has died at his North Carolina home. He was only 27.
Reports indicate Stitt was found dead in home after an apparent heart attack, though cause of death not been confirmed. Stitt’s death was first reported by Turkish hoops outlet Basketbolig and later conformed by
Clemson Basketball.
Former Clemson Star Demontez Stitt Passed Away at 27
Stitt went undrafted in 2011 out of Clemson. He then had a career overseas as a combo guard. Stitt averaged 19 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5 assists per game this past season in the Turkish Basketball League for Hapoel Tel Aviv. Other than Hapoel Tel Aviv, Stitt had played for Belfius Mons-Hainaut, Maccabi Haifa, Sigal Prishtina, Fuerza Regia Monterrey and Orkide Gediz Universitesi.
Stitt scored 1,365 points over his four-year career with the Tigers and was a play maker in the back court during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He lead the Tigers in scoring his final season at 14.5 points per game.
He also is the only Clemson player to start on four NCAA Tournament teams.
Several former teammates and coaches have tweeted about the passing of Stitt. Just hours before his death Stitt was tweeting “Thank you Lord” and “ALWAYS room to improve.”
