Georges Niang, Pacers Start Strong, Can’t Keep it Going

Both Georges Niang and the Pacers started out very well on Wednesday, however the fire fizzled out by the end of the game.

Georges Niang was 2-2 from the field with five points just halfway through the 1st quarter of Wednesday’s Orlando Magic Summer League game, but the former Iowa State Cyclone could not keep the hot streak going.

It was the same story with the Pacers though, after leading 15-5 to start the game, Indiana fell behind by 17 heading into the 3rd quarter and ultimately lost 89-71. Niang finished with 8 points, 4 rebounds, and not a single assist: all below his summer league average so far.

Georges Niang’s Summer League Averages (Through 4 of 5 games): 11.25 Points, 6.75 Rebounds, 2.5 Assists per game.

The Pacers will wrap up their 2016 Summer League Season on Friday when they play a one-game “playoff” for 7th place, with the game time to be determined.

Niang wraps up the “regular season” by averaging 25 minutes per game, which is second on the Pacers only to Glenn Robinson III, who is going on his third year in the league. All of this just means the former Iowa Stater does indeed have a decent shot at making it to the Pacers roster this season.

The 50th overall pick will have one more shot (at least in summer league scrimmages) to impress the Pacers staff.

As of now, the Pacers will play at 1:00pm CT in the 7th place game against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, but that is subject to change.

LWOS’ Cyclone analyst Connor Ferguson will continue to have coverage and live updates on former Cyclones in Summer League action on his twitter account (@cfchangs9) and here on the site. That includes Georges Niang of the Indiana Pacers and recently picked up Jameel McKay of the New Orleans Pelicans.

All NBA Summer League games can be watched live on NBATV or ESPN3, and stats can be found on the free, NBA GameTime App.
