NBA Free Agent Role Players Round-up

A round-up of several of the free agent role players in the NBA who signed new contracts within the first day of free agency.

Many NBA players agreed to contracts within the first day of free agency, on July 1st. Last Word On Sports has you covered with the “major” free agent signings listed in the LWOS 2016 NBA Free Agency Tracker. However, there are still several rotation players who agreed to deals but weren’t covered by the tracker. Here’s a round-up of the free agent role players who signed on the first day.

NBA Free Agent Role Players Round-up

Ish Smith

Keith Pompey of the Philly Inquirer reported Friday morning that unrestricted free agent point guard Ish Smith agreed to sign a three-year, $18 million contract with the Detroit Pistons:

Smith will be leaving the Philadelphia 76ers. The Pistons will be Smith’s 10th NBA team, but this is the first contract that will pay him significantly more than the minimum salary.

Mirza Teletovic

Marc Stein of ESPN reported that unrestricted free agent power forward Mirza Teletovic agreed to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks on a three-year, $30 million deal:

Teletovic will be leaving the Phoenix Suns after just one season with them.

Evan Fournier

Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated reported that restricted free agent shooting guard Evan Fournier agreed to re-sign with the Orlando Magic. His new contract is reportedly worth $85 million over five years:

Jeff Green

Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today reported that unrestricted free agent forward Jeff Green agreed to sign with the Magic for one year, on a contract worth $15 million:

Green will leave the Los Angeles Clippers after spending just half a season with them.

Solomon Hill

Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported that unrestricted free agent forward Solomon Hill agreed to sign with the New Orleans Pelicans on a four-year, $52 million contract:

Hill will be leaving the team that drafted him, the Indiana Pacers.

Darrell Arthur

Wojnarowski later reported that unrestricted free agent big man Darrell Arthur agreed to re-sign with the Denver Nuggets. His new deal is reportedly worth $23 million over three years:

Matthew Dellavedova

Zach Lowe of ESPN reported that restricted free agent guard Matthew Dellavedova agreed to sign a four-year, $38 million offer sheet with the Bucks:

Dellavedova’s incumbent team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, will have three days to match the offer sheet (in order to retain Dellavedova) after it is officially allowed to be signed on July 7th. However, it appears as though the Cavs won’t match the deal and will instead let Dellavedova walk. Cleveland’s superstar, LeBron James, congratualted Dellavedova on Twitter and wished him well in Milwaukee:

Since James has seemingly accepted the fact that Dellavedova won’t be returning to the Cavs, and LeBron’s word is pretty important in Cleveland (to say the least), it seems like the Australian guard is heading to the Bucks.

E’Twaun Moore

Scott Kushner of The Advocate reported on Friday night that unrestricted free agent guard E’Twaun Moore agreed to a four-year, $34 million deal with the Pelicans:

Moore leaves a Chicago Bulls team that recently traded away its starting point guard, Derrick Rose, and may now be looking to re-build.

Jared Dudley

Wojnarowski reported on Friday night that unrestricted free agent forward Jared Dudley agreed to a three-year, $30 million contract with the Suns:

Dudley will be leaving the Washington Wizards, a team which he struggled with last season. Dudley returns to Phoenix, where he played from 2008 through 2013.
