The St. Louis Blues have agreed to a two-year extension with forward Kyle Brodziak, the team announced Monday. Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the deal has an AAV of $950,000.

Kyle Brodziak Extended By the Blues for Two Years
Brodziak, 32, registered seven goals and four assists in 76 games with the Blues last year. He scored a pair of goals (one shorthanded tally) in a crucial Game 4 victory over the San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference Final, his only postseason points in 20 appearances with St. Louis.
Drafted in the seventh round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Brodziak has logged in 239 points (105G, 134A) in 697 career regular season games. He’s played in 47 playoff games over his tenure in the National Hockey League and has produced five goals and five assists.
Scottie Upshall, who plays with Brodziak on the Blues fourth line, recently signed a contract extension for one year worth $900,000. Brodziak and Upshall could have easily sought out more money from other teams vying for their services, but it’s clear that they believe in the Blues moving forward. The pair combined for one of the most effective penalty-killing forward duos and will continue to assume that role.
By locking in two fourth-line pieces under $1 million/year, GM Doug Armstrong hopes to re-sign RFA Jaden Schwartz next. Brian Elliott, their starting goaltender in the postseason, was traded away at the draft. Captain David Backes and playoff hero Troy Brouwer are set to hit free agency on July 1st, barring a deal with the Blues.
With Brodziak’s deal set in stone, the Blues are now at approximately $58 million with 18 roster players under contract. The NHL set the new salary cap ceiling at $73 million for the 2016-2017 season just six days ago.
