The Philadelphia Eagles signed Fletcher Cox to a six-year, $103 million deal with $63M of that being guaranteed money. The deal for Cox is the largest for a player that’s not a quarterback in NFL history.

Philadelphia Eagles Sign Fletcher Cox to 6-Year, $103 Million Deal
Cox was skipping the last month of Eagles OTAs due to not being able to agree on a long-term deal with the team. Despite the team and Cox’s agent not being able to agree on a deal, he did show up to Eagles minicamp last week at the NovaCare Complex. He only had one year left on his contract before signing the mega deal.
He was drafted by the Eagles in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Last season, he led the team by recording 24 tackles for a loss. He also recorded 71 combined tackles and 9.5 sacks last season, both career-highs.
He has recorded 22 sacks and six fumble recoveries over the course of his career. He went to his first Pro Bowl last season.
After three seasons in a 3-4 defense, Cox and the Eagles will be moving into a 4-3 defense under new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, who is a former head coach of the Detroit Lions.
The deal for Cox came after the Denver Broncos offered 2011 second-round pick and Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller a $114.5 million deal with $39.8 million guaranteed over the first two seasons. Miller denied the offer and it seems the two sides are far apart from agreeing on a deal.
With the Cox deal set in stone, this may be a sign to the Broncos to offer Miller more guaranteed money to keep him in Denver.
If Cox, who has made just one Pro Bowl in his four seasons in Philadelphia, can get a deal like the one he got, then a Super Bowl MVP such as Miller should get the same type of deal and then some.
