The following is a press release from Saint Louis FC of the USL.
FENTON, MO (April 29, 2016) – Matchday 7
PREVIEW: Saint Louis FC Set to Host First Place Vancouver WFC2
Saint Louis FC (2-2-2, 8 Pts.) vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 (3-0-2, 11 Pts.)
Date: Saturday, April 30
Time: 7:30 PM CT
Venue: World Wide Technology Soccer Park, Fenton, MO
Last Time Out:
Saint Louis FC returns home after locking down a win against Sacramento Republic FC last week. Patrick McLain, who was on a short term loan from the Chicago Fire, defended the goal against 18 shots and kept Sacramento off the scoreboard. Meanwhile, Mike Ambersley made the lone goal of the match in the 58th minute to give Saint Louis the 1-0 victory and three road points.
Sacramento will meet Saint Louis again at World Wide Technology Soccer Park on August 13.
The Opponent:
Vancouver traveled to the Midwest to take on the Swope Park Rangers in Kansas City Wednesday night. Vancouver’s Ben McKendry launched an impressive 30-yard rocket in the 54th minute which proved to be the winning goal. Vancouver stormed back to take a 2-1 victory after facing an early deficit.
WFC2’s leading goal scorer, Kyle Greig (4), added to his total when he connected on a penalty kick in the first half to begin Vancouver’s comeback.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 is currently leading the USL Western Conference with a record of 3-0-2, 11 points.
This Saturday will be Saint Louis’s only regular season match up against Vancouver.
Moving Up:
Saint Louis FC is currently on a four-game unbeaten streak and in 5th place in the Western Conference. Prior to the mid-week games, STLFC stood in 4th place, the highest the club has been ranked in its young history. With the top six teams in the West playing each other this Saturday, a Saint Louis win would put it in a tie with Vancouver for third place at worst and tied for most points in the Western Conference at best.
Owning Every City:
Vancouver’s Kyle Greig, who has already scored four goals this season, has found the net on every field that Vancouver has visited this season: Orange County, Portland, Los Angeles, and Kansas City. Saint Louis will make every effort to end his run of form away from Vancouver.
