Brayden Schenn Suspended 3 Games for Hit on Oshie

Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn has been suspended for three games, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced Tuesday evening.  Schenn was suspended for charging the Washington Capitals’ T.J. Oshie in game six of the two clubs first round Stanley Cup Playoffs match-up.

Schenn was not penalized on the play, nor credited with a hit, but the Department of Player Safety had this to say in their explanation- “Schenn approaches Oshie as he pulls the puck out of the corner and both players are low and in athletic position. Oshie sees Schenn coming and braces himself for shoulder-to-shoulder contact. Rather than staying low and delivering a hit into Oshie’s shoulder or chest, Schenn launches himself up and into Oshie, making substantial contact with Oshie’s head.”  Oshie would leave the game only for moments before making a return.

Now that the Flyers are out of the playoffs and their season is over, it was decided that Brayden Schenn will serve his suspension for the first three regular season games of the 2016-2017 NHL season.  Brayden Schenn finished the 2015-2016 regular season with 26 goals and 33 assists for a total of 59 points in 80 games played.  In six games played in the 2016 playoffs, Schenn finished with no goals and just two assists.
