In Duke’s first round game the saviour was the senior Marshall Plumlee. In the second round game against Ivy League school Yale, it was the super-freshman that dominated for the Bluedevils who won 71-64. Future lottery pick Brandon Ingram dropped 25 points, while last year’s final’s star Greyson Allen scored 29. When these two are firing on all cylinders, it will be tough for anyone to take down Duke this tournament. They will face number one seed in the West Oregon in the sweet sixteen.
Speaking of Oregon, their second round game against St. Joseph’s was a lot tougher than first round matchup with Holy Cross. The Hawks had a chance to tie the game late but turned it over with only ten seconds left and would eventually lose 69-64. Their matchup against the Duke Bluedevils in the sweet sixteen will be extremely entertaining as these two run and gun offensive teams fight it out for a place in the elite eight.
In perhaps the craziest March Madness game of all-time, Cinderella school UNI looked prime to be the lowest seed in the sweet sixteen this year. Most reporters were halfway done their articles about how dominant UNI played against three seed Texas A&M as they had a 12 point lead with 44-seconds left. The whole world was about to know who this UNI team was. Then they cracked. Texas A&M came back and would win in double overtime 92-88 behind 25 points from Alex Caruso. No doubt there will be countless documentaries and columns written on this inexplicable collapse.
Everyone knew Buddy Hield could play, but this kind of production was perhaps unexpected. Hield single-handedly took down the VCU Rams with 36 points. He will have to put on another masterful performance against a talented Texas A&M team who are coming in after their emotional game against UNI. Look out NBA, Buddy is on his way.
