Evander Kane Investigation Closed

The Evander Kane investigation into an alleged sexual assault has closed with no charges filed.

The County of Erie District Attorney’s office said today that it is closing the sexual assault investigation against Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane. Various media outlets are reporting that the District Attorney, as well as the Buffalo Police Department, determined no illegal activity occurred and that the investigation has now closed.

The investigation stems from an incident which allegedly occurred last December at the HarborCenter Marriott, where Kane was living at the time.

Kane has maintained innocence throughout the investigation.

In addition to the sexual assault investigation, Kane was suspended by the Sabres in February after oversleeping and missing practice. The previous weekend, Kane posted photos of himself on social media attending various parties and functions connected with the National Basketball Association All-Star game, which was held in Toronto this year. The photos were later deleted from his accounts.

Kane is in his first season with the Buffalo Sabres. Kane was traded by the Winnipeg Jets to Buffalo on February 11, 2015, while recovering from shoulder surgery. He did not suit up for Buffalo last season.
