The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that injured wingers James van Riemsdyk (foot) and Joffrey Lupul (sports hernia) have been shut down for the remainder of the 2015-16 NHL season.
Van Riemsdyk, 26, sustained a broken foot versus the San Jose Sharks in January, and has reportedly suffered a serious setback which has effectively ended his season.

Leafs Wingers Shut Down for the Season
The former second-overall draft pick was acquired in the off-season of 2011-12 for former fifth-overall draft pick Luke Schenn , and has proven to be as durable as he is skilled having missed just two games between the 2013-15 and 2014-15 seasons.
Before his injury on January 9th, van Riemsdyk was leading the Leafs with 29 points in 40 games.
Joffrey Lupul reportedly had sports hernia surgery on February 22nd and will also not return to the active roster this season.

When healthy, Lupul has been a capable offensive threat for the Maple Leafs, who re-signed the 32-year old to a lucrative $26.25 million, five-year contract extension in January of 2013. Lupul has never played more than 69 games in a Leafs jersey in any one season, and has played just 260 of a possible 376 NHL games since 2010-11, when he was acquired from Anaheim along with Jake Gardiner for Francois Beauchemin.
