On Tuesday evening, the Washington Capitals and the Buffalo Sabres made a deal. The Caps aquire defenseman Mike Weber from Buffalo for a third round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. Buffalo will retain 50% of Weber’s remaining contract, (About $1.67 million in cap space for the full season).

Caps acquire Mike Weber from Sabres
With the move the Sabres have added another draft pick, now totaling 20 for both the 2016 and 2017 National Hockey League Entry Drafts. Washington has added another left-handed shooter to their ranks and now have some more insurance at the blue line.
The Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan had this to say regarding the veteran d-man, “Mike is a stay at home defenseman who plays a physical game and is respected by his teammates. We felt it was important to add depth to our blue line by adding another quality veteran defenseman.”
Weber, 28, 6’2, 217 pounds, will add depth to the surging Capitals roster. He has played 35 games this year, tallying just one goal and four assists, (Via NHL.com). He has averaged about 15 minutes of ice time a game. He will become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
