Wojciech Szczęsny kept a clean sheet for Roma in their 2-0 win over Sassuolo. Szczęsny made a key save early in the match to keep the score level, before Roma took the lead in the 11th minute through a Mohamed Salah goal. The Arsenal man was again called into action for a series of saves just before the break, and had six overall in the match. He was perhaps lucky to see an 88th-minute penalty, which would have leveled the score at 1-1, go high over the bar.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles started for Ipswich in their 2-1 win over Reading, but was taken off at the half. It was not a poor performance from the Arsenal man, but, with Ipswich struggling to contain Reading playmaker Oliver Norwood, Maitland-Niles was replaced by Kévin Bru, in the hopes that Bru could contain Norwood.
Wellington Silva scored for Bolton in their 2-2 draw with Wolves. Silva’s goal in the 81st minute brought Bolton within one, after falling behind 2-0, before teammate Stephen Dobbie leveled the score in the 88th minute. Overall, it was a lively performance from the Bolton winger. In addition to his goal, he forced a good save just before half-time. Silva also completed 93 percent of his passes and created three quality chances. Fellow Arsenal loanee, Emiliano Martínez, did not play for Wolves.
Gedion Zelalem returned to the starting eleven for Rangers. The Arsenal man played 72 minutes as Rangers won 1-0 over Raith Rovers, extending their lead at the top of the Scottish Championship to eight points. Zelalem nearly had an assist near the half-hour mark as he set Martyn Waghorn up for a shot on goal, but Waghorn’s attempt was straight at the Raith keeper.
Glen Kamara was an unused substitute for Southend United in their 2-1 win over Shrewsbury Town.
Mathieu Debuchy officially joined Bordeaux in Ligue 1 on loan until the end of the season. After losing his place in the first team to Héctor Bellerín last season, Debuchy has made clear his intention to seek first team football in an effort to play his way on to the France roster for the European Championships this summer.
