Crystal Palace sign Emmanuel Adebayor on a free transfer

Crystal Palace have signed former Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a free transfer. A deal that will see Adebayor feature for the Eagles till the end of the season.

The 31-year old Togolese striker was released by Spurs by mutual consent in September and has been looking for a club since that time. Palace will pay £70,000 of his weekly wages whiles Spurs will continue to pay £30,000 until his contract with them ends in June.

Adebayor, 31, will wear the number 25 shirt at Palace. His arrival comes at the right time for Alan Pardew who confirmed interest in the player two weeks ago. Palace have struggled to score goals and Adebayor is undoubtedly a proven goalscorer with 94 goals in the Premier League.

Pardew’s men have scored 24 goals in 23 games, the League’s joint-third lowest by any club this season. With strikers at the club struggling to get their goalscoring boots on, Adebayor might be walking straight in the team.

The Eagles have lost their last four games in a row and have not recorded a win in their last six. They are on the 11th position on the log.

Alan Pardew has been a long admirer of the former Arsenal striker. He tried to sign him for West Ham in 2006. Adebayor however joined Arsenal instead from Monaco.

The striker was linked to Aston Villa in the summer where he could have reunited with Tim Sherwood but the two parties couldn’t strike a deal. Adebayor and Sherwood enjoyed a good working relationship at Spurs before the later was sacked.

Adebayor without doubt comes with lots of Premier League experience having played for Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham. He also had a loan spell at Real Madrid where he scored 5 goals in 14 appearances.

The signing of the striker is Palace’s first signing in the winter transfer window.
