Aggies Recruiting Update

The Texas A&M Aggies recruiting record in recent years under head coach Kevin Sumlin has been very impressive. The loss of five-star quarterbacks Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray, who transferred out of the program last month, has changed the priorities for the 2016 recruiting class. With only Jake Hubenak and now Trevor Knight on scholarship plus five-star prospect Tate Martell not due to join the program until 2017, they suddenly have a real need at quarterback.

Nick Starkel decommitted from Oklahoma State and is a big fan of new offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone. Since Mazzone left UCLA for Texas A&M, it seems Starkel has developed an interest in coming to College Station which would really help to add competition at the quarterback position. Sumlin is also making a late push for Dillon Sterling-Cole who is committed to Arizona State but the Aggies believe they can flip him. He is a another pro style quarterback from Houston, TX.

Elsewhere the Aggies seem to be making a real push on the defensive side of the ball to continue to address the lack of talent on the depth chart. Cornerbacks Parish Cobb and Byron Murphy are being heavily recruited by A&M but there is a lot of competition for a commitment for these players. While safety Brandon Jones still has the Aggies as his top school, there is a lot of interest from other big schools so there is work to do to get a firm commitment.
