The subject of many trade rumors over the past couple of weeks, right-handed reliever Drew Storen is finally on the move. Late Friday night, the Washington Nationals agreed to send Storen and unspecified cash considerations to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Ben Revere and a player to named later. The deal was confirmed by Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The deal fills immediate needs for both clubs. The Nationals have a left-handed batter, capable of playing centerfield to platoon with Michael Taylor and fill the void left by Denard Span. Conversely, Toronto is able to bolster their bullpen and provide a valuable 8th inning bridge to closer Roberto Osuna. Toronto’s bullpen ranked 12th in ERA in 2015, and has lost LaTroy Hawkins to retirement, Mark Lowe to free agency, and Liam Hendricks was traded to the Oakland Athletics.
As others have noted, #Nationals will control Revere for two seasons, #BlueJays will control Storen for one.

Revere is projected to earn close to $7 million in 2016 after arbitration and is under arbitration control for 2017 as well. 2015 was a poster year for Revere at the plate, batting a career high .319
After an above average 2015 with an ERA of 3.44 in 55 innings pitched, Storen is projected to earn roughly $9 million and will be a free agent after the 2016 season. According to MLB on Fox reporter Ken Rosenthal, the cash considerations in the deal will be used to cover the salary difference between Revere and Storen.
