It took a few games, but Jarome Arthur-Leigh Adekunle Tig Junior Elvis Iginla, known more colloquially as “Iggy,” finally joined the pantheon of some of the greatest goalscorers in NHL history when he potted his 600th against the Los Angeles Kings last night.

While it wasn’t he prettiest goal of Iginla’s 19-year career, the 38-year-old Colorado Avalanche forward will take it.
Igina has now become just the 19th player in league history to hit the lofty 600-goal mark, and while he’s a far way from Wayne Gretzky’s record of 894, just one more goal would tie him with Gretzky’s former running mate Jari Kurri at 601.
Iginla, who has now scored 11 goals this season, could conceivably at year’s end sit alone at 16th on the all time list, above the great Bobby Hull at 610 goals, if he can produce at the same rate for the rest of the season.
Iginla left the Calgary Flames in 2012-13 as the franchise’s all-time leader in both goals (525) and points (1095) and after stints with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins, seems to have found a comfortable home in Colorado, scoring 29 goals and 59 points for the club last year in addition to his 11 goals and 21 points through 40 games this season.
In addition to his 600 goals, the two-time Memorial Cup champion with the Kamloops Blazers, two-time Olympic Gold medalist with Team Canada, two-time Maurice “Rocket” Richard trophy winner, former scoring champion, and sure-fire first-ballot Hall-of-Famer now has 1,247 points in 1,432 games… the only thing he’s missing, is a Stanley Cup.
