It used to be that the NFL was full of head coach and general manager firings on “Black Monday”, the first day after the NFL regular season ended. This year a number of NFL teams have gotten an early start. The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t even wait for their last game to be played before firing head coach Chip Kelly, and the Cleveland Browns let Mike Pettine and Ray Farmer go before the stadium parking lots had even emptied.
Now the San Francisco 49ers can be added to the list. The team announced that they were letting go of head coach Jim Tomsula, within two hours of the end of the teams 19-16 win over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. The victory did not stop the Levi Stadium faithful from booing the team and Tomsula though.
Tomsula was hired as the team’s head coach last off-season, replacing the departed Jim Harbaugh. He led the team to a 5-11 record, as the 49ers missed the playoffs for the second straight year.
The following is the team’s official press release.

This entire organization is proud and grateful to have worked so closely alongside Jimmy. We all wish him and his family great success in the future.”
49ers Chief Executive Officer Jed York will personally address the matter at 10:30 a.m. Monday morning in the Levi’s® Stadium Auditorium.
