UFC Signs Holly Holm to Multiyear Contract
Holly Holm’s manager, Lenny Fresquez, told ESPN today that the UFC has signed the current Women’s Bantamweight Champion to a multiyear contract extension.
“We have officially signed a multiyear extension with the UFC,” Fresquez said. “That’s all I can verify right now. We’ve signed an extension, and we’re very happy with the extension.”
Holm shocked the world earlier this year in Melbourne, Australia at UFC 193 when she upset the former champion, Ronda Rousey, via a head kick knock out in the second round. Holm was the first MMA fighter to defeat the Olympic judoka medalist, and has compiled a 10-0 record in MMA, including three head kick knockouts.
The UFC brass has already announced that they will give Rousey an immediate rematch against Holm, possibly at UFC 200 in July, while Holm herself has expressed interest in defending the title before again meeting Rousey. Holm has also stated that she would be interested in defending her title against the number two ranked challenger Miesha Tate, or may even be open to the idea of fighting the Invicta FC Featherweight Champion, Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino, despite the fact that Justine fights at a higher weight class.
“I know with the UFC, they don’t have that division. So, if that was something that they were going to put together, I’m not against it,” Holm said. “I’m open to it.”
Regardless of who Holm fights next, her contract extension with the UFC opens up many possibilities for her in the future, including many fights that will have fight fans excited for the future of the Women’s Bantamweight division.
