According to Yahoo Sports : The Chicago White Sox have completed a three-team trade to acquire Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier. The other team involved for this trade was the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Reds will get infielders Jose Peraza and Brandon Dixon and outfielder Scott Schebler from the Dodgers.
The White Sox are sending pitcher Frankie Montas, infielder Micah Johnson and outfielder Trayce Thompson to the Dodgers.
With the move for the White Sox it is a likely possibility that Brett Lawrie will be moving from third base to second.
Todd Frazier to the White Sox
Last season Frazier batted .255/.309.498 through 619 at-bats , hit 35 home runs and 89 RBIs. Last year he won the the Home Run Derby during the All-Star break and has been to two straight All-Star games. Frazier comes to Chicago with two years left on his contract before he is a free agent.
Chicago White Sox general manager, Rick Hahn said this about the trade for Todd Frazier:
“Todd is one of the finer all around third basemen in the league. He is a high-character, smart baseball player who will provide an impact bat in the middle of our order. He solidifies us defensively at third base and provides a great presence in our lineup and in the clubhouse.”
According to MLB.com since the trade went through, Frankie Montas is the fourth-ranked prospect , Micah Johnson is now the eighth-ranked prospect, and lastly Trayce Thompson is their sixteenth-ranked prospect now for the Dodgers. For the Reds Jose Peraza is now their first-ranked prospect, Scott Schebler is ranked thirteen, and lastly at the moment Brandon Dixon is unranked for the top 30.
Cincinnati Reds president of baseball operations, Walt Jocketty, comments on Frazier’s departure.
“This was very difficult to do, a difficult phone call to make, but as we look forward to what we’re set out to do here, to get this team back in contention as quickly as we can, we felt this was part of the process to get to that point. We feel like the players we got are going to be part of our future. We think that both Peraza and Schebler could possibly be part of the team this year and certainly in the future.”
Even though Frazier said at RedsFest that he talked to Chief Executive Officer of the Reds, Bob Castellini and Walt Jocketty that he them he wanted to be a Red for life, that will not happen.
