On an incredibly quiet Sunday after a post-U.S. Thanksgiving Saturday which saw 24 NHL teams in action, the Florida Panthers and the Detroit Red Wings managed to put on a spirited show which included a coach’s challenge, nine powerplays, young Dylan Larkin continuing his recent hot streak (six goals in seven games) and two strong performances from goalies Roberto Luongo (28 saves) and Petr Mrazek (30 saves). However, it was veteran offensive defenseman Brian Campbell who stole the show in overtime to seal Florida’s comeback victory 2-1.

That’s Campbell’s 2nd of the season, and 16th career game-winning goal, off a great pass from Jonathan Huberdeau, who continues to be snakebit this season with just one goal, but now has 12 assists.
With the win the Panthers moved to within one point of the idle Tampa Bay Lightning for 5th in the Atlantic Division and four points behind Detroit, who sits in a playoff position at 3rd in the division, now with 28 points.
Despite giving up the lead in the third period, Detroit managed to continue their streak, as the club has now taken home at least one point in seven consecutive games, six of which have gone beyond 60 minutes. Interestingly, despite playing eight overtime games this season, the Wings are one of just six NHL teams who have yet to participate in a shootout, as they are 5-3 in the five-minute three-on-three.
Up next the Red Wings will continue their seven-game home stand when the Buffalo Sabres come to the Joe on Tuesday, while the Panthers will also play on Tuesday, in St. Louis against the Blues.
