Another week of college basketball is in the books. As promised, here is my college basketball Top 25 after Week 4 of the season:
College Basketball Top 25: Week 4
1. Kentucky Wildcats (Previous: 1)
Record: 6-0
Week Record: 2-0
Nothing new to report for the Wildcats, other than the conductor of this train, Tyler Ulis, is day to day with an elbow injury.
2. Duke Blue Devils (2)
Record: 6-1
Week Record: 2-0
Duke’s only loss continues to be Kentucky. The Blue Devils had another good week, and the freshmen are getting more experience.
3. North Carolina Tar Heels (3)
Record: 5-1
Week Record: 2-0
North Carolina got two solid wins this week beating Northwestern and Kansas State. Important for the Tar Heels to avoid bad losses.
4. Oklahoma Sooners (4)
Record: 4-0
Week Record: 2-0
The Sooners showed off their explosive offense this week, even if they only scored 65 points against Wisconsin.
5. Michigan State Spartans (5)
Record: 7-0
Week Record: 4-0
Michigan State controls the glass better than anyone in the country, but they rely on their guards for offense. Spartans need to keep making shots.
6. Villanova Wildcats (6)
Record: 6-0
Week Record: 2-0
Villanova bores the life out of some people, but the Wildcats are solid again this year. Freshman point Jalen Brunson is the real deal.
7. Maryland Terrapins (7)
Record: 6-0
Week Record: 3-0
Maryland seems to be finding its groove lately. Also, Robert Carter might become a more important transfer than Rasheed Sulaimon when it’s all said and done.
8. Kansas Jayhawks (8)
Record: 4-1
Week Record: 3-0
Kansas was impressive in the Maui Invitational, and beat a pretty dang good Vanderbilt squad to win it. Wayne Selden is their X-Factor once again.
9. Iowa State Cyclones (9)
Record: 5-0
Week Record: 3-0
Iowa State held on for a good win against Illinois, but I still don’t buy them as a top five team. They can play, though.
10. Vanderbilt Commodores (17)
Record: 5-1
Week Record: 2-1
They may have lost to Kansas, but Vanderbilt was one of the most impressive teams of the week. They are so balanced on offense and can lock in on defense.
- Virginia Cavaliers (5-1) (15)
- Gonzaga Bulldogs (4-1) (11)
- Purdue Boilermakers (6-0) (13)
- Arizona Wildcats (6-1) (12)
- Oregon Ducks (5-0) (18)
- Texas A&M Aggies (6-1) (UnR)
- Cincinnati Bearcats (7-0) (UnR)
- Xavier Musketeers (7-0) (UnR)
- Miami Hurricanes (5-1) (14)
- Syracuse Orange (6-0) (UnR)
- Indiana Hoosiers (4-2) (10)
- West Virginia Mountaineers (6-0) (UnR)
- Providence (6-1) (UnR)
- Baylor Bears (4-1) (25)
- Butler (5-1) (24)
