Washington Capitals defenceman Dmitry Orlov put on an on-ice magic show at the Verizon Center on Saturday night against the Colorado Avalanche, making the puck disappear and reappear in the bottom of the net.
Well, not actually.
Orlov made his way through the o-zone, dragged the puck beautifully between his legs and walked past two Avs defenders to put a shot on net. The puck ricocheted off of goalie Calvin Pickard’s waist and landed by Orlov’s feet. While players from both teams, including Pickard stood around the net thinking the puck was hidden somewhere in his equipment, Orlov carried the puck behind the net and dropped it in the empty net for his first goal since March 2, 2014. The Russian also has five assists this season.
“I was scared if referee would make a whistle,” Orlov told reporters after Washington’s 7-3 victory. “I can see like empty net so I wait, wait, wait and start moving to middle. It’s kind of funny situation and hard to explain. It just happen.”
The Capitals are now 13-5-1 this season.
“I see some magic on the ice,” Evgeny Kuznetsov told reporters of Orlov’s goal.
