Jose Mourinho has been handed a stadium ban and a £40,000 fine by the football association. This is suppose to take place with immediate effect.
Mourinho’s misconduct in the game against West Ham United called for this punishment. It is said that Mourinho was charged over his choice of words to match officials and his behaviour during the game.
The Chelsea manager was sent to the stands before the second half of the game after he tried to confront referee Jon Moss in his changing room during the break at half time.
The FA said Mourinho admitted the charge to an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on Monday.
If Mourinho does not appeal then he will not be in the dugout for Chelsea when his side travel to face Stoke City on Saturday. Mourinho is expected to receive the FA’s written reasons within the week and, if he contests the punishment, he could still be on the bench at the Britannia Stadium.
This is not the first time the FA have punished the Chelsea boss for his actions this season. He has already been fined £50,000 for comments he made about match officials after his sides defeat to Southampton. The Chelsea manager however labelled that as a disgraced and contested against it.
Silvino Louro, Mourinho’s assistant was also charged by the FA for his bahaviour on Chelsea’s bench in the defeat against West Ham United but the FA withdrew an improper conduct charge against him and have cautioned him.
Chelsea, the defending champions are 15th on the league table with 11 points after 11 games and lost six times, statistics that does not favour their title defence. Chelsea are 14 points behid league leaders Manchester City.
Mourinho is under immense pressure to turn Chelsea’s season around and get his side back to winning ways. Chelsea have had their worst start to a campaign under Roman Abramovich and Jose Mourinho’s job might just be on the line.
