Paul Stastny Sidelined With Broken Foot

The St. Louis Blues announced Wednesday afternoon that forward Paul Stastny has been placed on injured-reserve after suffering a broken right foot against the Vancouver Canucks on October 16th. He will be re-evaluated in five weeks, according to the team.

After blocking a shot in the second period of the game in Vancouver, Stastny headed for the locker room before returning for a brief skate during a media timeout. The 29-year-old center left the game shortly after and was unable to return in the eventual 4-3 win for the Blues.

This season, Stastny has been placed in a top-line role in St. Louis with Vladimir Tarasenko and Alexander Steen, as opposed to last year where he mainly saw third-line minutes. He currently is the second-highest paid player on the Blues roster, making $7 million over the next three seasons.

Before his injury, Stastny has registered one goal and four assists along with a plus-4 rating and 10 shots. He has notched a point in four straight games.

The second-round (44th overall) draft pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche was signed as a free agent by St. Louis on July 1st, 2014 to a 4-year/$28 million contract. In his first full season as a Blue last year, Stastny amassed 16 goals and 30 assists in 74 games.

The Blues return home after their longest road-trip of the season (7 games) on Saturday against the New York Islanders.
