This season Last Word on Sports will be keeping you up to date on the Arsenal players out on loan, as they continue to develop their skills and prove they are ready to compete for a place in the Arsenal side. There are currently twelve players out on loan from Arsenal.

- Wojciech Szczesny (GK), on loan to AS Roma in Serie A
- Carl Jenkinson (RB), on loan to West Ham United in the Premier League
- Yaya Sanogo (ST), on loan to Ajax in the Eredivisie
- Serge Gnabry (MID), on loan to West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League
- Ainsley Maitland-Niles (MID), on loan to Ipswich Town in the Championship
- Isaac Hayden (CB/MID), on loan to Hull City in the Championship
- Chuba Akpom (ST), on loan to Hull City in the Championship
- Daniel Crowley (MID), on loan to Barnsley in League One
- Jon Toral (MID), on loan to Birmingham City in the Championship
- Emiliano Martinez (GK), on loan to Wolves in the Championship
- Wellington Silva (MID), on loan to Bolton in the Championship
- Gedion Zelalem (MID), on loan to Rangers in the Scottish Championship
Eight Gunners made appearances in the last week for club and country, with Carl Jenkinson and Wellington Silva goals and Gedion Zelalem making an international appearance.
Wojciech Szczesny made two appearances for Roma in the past week. Szczesny made four saves in Roma’s shocking 3-2 loss to Bate Borisov in the Champions League. He then made three saves as Roma defeated Palermo 4-2 in Serie A. Former Arsenal man Gervinho scored a brace for Roma in the game.
Carl Jenkinson scored in West Ham’s 2-2 draw at Sunderland. It was his first goal of the season, scored just before the end of the first half to start the comeback for the Hammers. The game got off to a bad start for West Ham, who were 2-0 down after 22 minutes. Jenkinson was heavily involved down the right wing when West Ham were in possession, though the Hammers will be disappointed they were unable to get all three points after Jeremain Lens was sent off for Sunderland.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles played 59 minutes as Ipswich fell 2-0 to Blackburn Rovers. It was Ipswich’s third consecutive league game without a win, as they now have one win in six after starting the season four games unbeaten. Maitland-Niles created three chances and had one shot blocked, but completed only 45% of his passes, giving him something clear to work on.
Wellington Silva came on in the 80th minute and scored the equalising goal for Bolton in the 85th minute, before former Arsenal man Jay Emmanuel-Thomas scored in added time to give QPR the 4-3 win.
Chuba Akpom came on for goalscorer Abel Hernandez in the 75th minute of Hull City’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest. Akpom was disappointing, unable to involve himself and misplacing both of the TWO passes he attempted. Fellow Arsenal loanee, Isaac Hayden, did not play.
Dan Crowley came on in the 80th minute as Barnsley lost 2-1 at Doncaster.
Emiliano Martinez started again for Wolves and kept a clean sheet in their 3-0 victory over Huddersfield. Martinez was solid for Wolves, making six saves to preserve the clean sheet. At the other end, former Gunner Benik Afobe scored twice for Wolves.
Gedion Zelalem did not play in Rangers’ win over the weekend, as he was with the United States Under-23 team in the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Zelalem started at the front of the midfield diamond for the United States in their tournament opening 3-1 win over Canada. Zelalem was rested for the U.S.’s 6-1 victory over Cuba, but remains a key piece of the U-23 team and should remain heavily involved as the tournament continues and the U.S. seek to qualify for Rio 2016, having missed out on the Olympics last time around.
