AFC Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson will be out for at least six months with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, and it’s possible the 23 year-old may miss the rest of the Premier League season. Wilson, who scored five goals in Bournemouth’s first seven games, suffered the injury in the Cherries’ 2-1 defeat at Stoke City on Saturday. The injury will require surgical repair.

Speaking of his star striker, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said: “It’s very disappointing for Callum, after what has been an exceptional start to the season, but I am sure he will come back fitter and stronger. Callum is the type of character that won’t be fazed by such a setback and I am sure he will turn this experience into a positive in the long run. As I have said many times before though, this kind of setback offers others the opportunity to step up to the plate , show everybody what they can do and make a real impact at this level”.
Wilson is the third Bournemouth player to suffer a serious knee injury. Club record signing Tyrone Mings is out for the season with an ACL injury and forward Max Gradel will miss at least six months with the same injury.
