LAST TIME OUT: Saint Louis FC won its second consecutive home match in front of a sold-out crowd last Saturday, defeating Charlotte Independence 2-0 at Marshall Wireless Stadium. James Musa put the hosts in front in the 29th minute before Jacob Bushue doubled Saint Louis’ lead with his first career goal early in the second half. Goalkeeper Alec Kann only had to make one save to earn his sixth shutout of the season. The win allowed STL FC to sweep the two-game season series with Charlotte, which had a 12-game unbeaten streak snapped with the loss.
THE OPPONENT: Louisville City FC is locked in as the second seed in the USL Eastern Conference playoff standings and has already secured a first-round bye. With a win on Saturday, LCFC would guarantee itself the right to host the USL Final should it advance to that stage. Louisville forward Matt Fondy currently leads the race for the USL Golden Boot, with 22 goals scored in 27 games.
KING’S CUP FINALE: This weekend’s match will be the fourth and final meeting between Saint Louis FC and Louisville City FC this season. After Louisville defeated STL FC 2-0 at Slugger Field in both clubs’ season opener on March 28, the teams played to a 3-3 draw in St. Louis on May 24 and then settled for a 1-1 draw in Louisville on May 30. STL FC can clinch the inaugural King’s Cup with a victory on Saturday, but must win by three goals or more to do so.
ATTENDANCE RANKINGS: Saint Louis FC is currently 4th in the USL in average home attendance (4,825) following the sellout against Charlotte at WWT Soccer Park last weekend. The club will be aiming for its sixth sellout of the season against Louisville this Saturday. Only Sacramento, Louisville, and Rochester have a higher average attendance than STL FC this season.
