DeMarcus Lawrence Has a Good Idea What Dez Bryant Is Going Through

Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence has a good idea what Dez Bryant is going through. The Pro Bowl wide-receiver will miss a significant portion of the 2015 NFL season as he makes his way back from a broken bone in his right foot.

Lawrence can empathize with Bryant because he suffered a very similar injury last season.

“It’s really not tough,” Lawrence said. “It’s just staying after it, staying focused.”

“You can’t think about the injury. You go through the process of getting over the injury. You just have to hit the ground running.”

In last year’s training camp, Lawrence broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. It was the very same bone Bryant broke in Sunday night’s game against the New York Giants. The good news from Bryant’s is that Lawrence was activated by the second half of their season. And he returned in top form, including recording a sack in both Cowboys playoff games.

“I mean, the work he’s going to do to get back, he’s going to feel no difference, really,” Lawrence said. “I don’t feel like he’s going to have any setbacks. I know I didn’t dealing with the injury. I feel like he’s going to be OK.”

What the two players suffered is known as a Jones fracture. DeMarcus Lawrence suffered his injury in camp and was out almost 11 weeks.

The Dallas Cowboys put Lawrence on the injured list to open the season, which meant their rookie was ineligible to play the first eight games of the season.

Seven weeks later, Lawrence was medically cleared by the team. After this happens, it’s all about their conditioning level.

“I mean, he’s going to condition regardless,” Lawrence said. “And they’re not going to let him go out there and mess up something else, so he’s going to condition.

“The injury really isn’t a big deal. As long as he gets the surgery and heals up good, he’ll be OK.”
