Mauro Biello Replaces Frank Klopas as Interim Head Coach

Following yesterday’s 2-1 loss to rivals Toronto FC, and with a side that is 8-11-5 on the season, management in Montreal feel that changes are needed for the Impact.  The club has earned just 11 out of a possible 33 points in their last 11 MLS games, and so the axe has fallen on head coach Frank Klopas.

The 48-year-old Klopas was in his second season with Montreal after coaching the Chicago Fire from 2011-13. Montreal was 6-18-10 last year in MLS play.  Klopas also led the team to the CONCACAF Champions League Final this spring.

The team announced the news early this morning.

MAURO BIELLO REPLACES FRANK KLOPAS AS INTERIM HEAD COACH

MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced that Mauro Biello is named interim head coach of the club’s first team, replacing Frank Klopas.

Biello, 43, is in his sixth year with the Montreal Impact coaching staff, including four as an assistant coach in MLS. He joined the staff on November 19, 2009, after a 19-year career as a professional player, including 16 in an Impact uniform.
