Jason Day birdied his last 3 holes to come from behind and win the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario. He overtook the lead from Canadian David Hearn to win the tournament and the winner’s share of the over $5 million in prize money available at the tournament.
The Australian shot a final round four-under par 68 and picked up his fourth career PGA Tour win and second of the season. He finished the weekend at 17 under par. Day also won at the Farmers Insurance Open earlier this year.
The 26-year-old curled in a left-to-right 21 foot putt on the 18th, similar to the one he left short at the Open Championship last Monday on the 18th green.
“It’s just a really good feeling because whenever you win an Open championship of any country you’re doing something good,” said Day following the win. “For it come after what happened last week, and to be able to hit that putt, I’m just over the moon right now.”
Bubba Watson finished second, a stroke behind Day at 16 under after birdieing five of his last six holes.
Canadian David Hearn, the 54 hole leader, was seeking to become the first Canadian to win his national championship since Pat Fletcher in 1954, could only manage a final round 72 and finished third alone at 15 under par. Two-time Canadian Open champion Jim Furyk finished in fourth at 14 under par.
