The LWOS crew have been pumping iron all week and getting powerful, still we have a long to go if we wish to be as powerful as the 2015 CFL squads. Here are your CFL power rankings after an exciting week two.
Week Two CFL Power Rankings
1. Toronto Argonauts
The Argos are looking very good to start the year, dropping the Eskimos like a bag of dirty socks and taking a win from the Riders in Regina. This team has gelled since training camp and a win against the defending champs in Calgary could further their number 1 ranking on our board.
2. Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Hamilton has looked great in their first two games thus far; losing the heartbreaker in week one to the Stampeders seemed to light a fire under their… you know what. After the loss, the Ticats decided it was time to feast on the Bombers and absolutely shredded Winnipeg in Winnipeg. Look out! These cats have teeth and claws and 2nd place on our board.
3. Ottawa Redblacks
You can’t argue with a 2-0 team sitting this high in the power rankings. Burris is clicking and the receivers are catching everything in sight. They seem like a team that’s tough to beat, which makes them top 3 material.
4. Calgary Stampeders
They looked strong against Hamilton as they barely eked out a win, but they looked hapless against Montreal. They’re staying high because their players are top-notch, but another loss and they’ll sink way down.
5. Montreal Alouettes
Montreal went with yet another starting QB in week two after Jon Crompton and Dan LeFevour both went down with injuries, and this time, CFL rookie Rakeem Cato led the Alouettes to a victory over the Stampeders. He passed the ball around to numerous receivers and the defence was able to hold Calgary scoreless until the third quarter. The only reason why Montreal isn’t higher up the rankings is the fact that Cato will need to start more games and show consistency.
6. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Oh, Winnipeg! After a surprise victory in Regina in week one, the Blue Bombers were beaten up at home by the Tiger-Cats. The Bombers were known for inconsistency last season and their stars from week one, like Drew Willy, Paris Cotton, and Nick Moore, failed to live up to their hype in week two. Willy got injured and although he will likely play in week three, he won’t be at 100%, dropping his team’s ranking down to sixth.
7. Saskatchewan Roughriders
Saskatchewan has lost both games making their standing 0 for 2, last place in the West. They stand at 7 in our power rankings because in both games the score was close. Kevin Glenn will be the deciding factor for the Riders’ success this season.
8. Edmonton Eskimos
Edmonton has suffered a huge loss after losing quarterback Mike Reilly, they need to come back with a win this week against Ottawa, one that probably won’t come easy. Ottawa is out to prove they’re a contender in the East.
9. B.C. Lions
Sitting at the bottom of the power rankings the past couple years, it seems, has been mostly reserved for Eastern teams. Not this year. Even though Lulay looked strong and BC was leading for most of the game, they fell apart in the 4th quarter, unable to produce anything on offence. In the CFL, you have to be strongest in the 4th.
That wraps up another collaborative effort from LWOS writers that includes: Lance Keiser, Matt Bin, Nick Di Giovanni and Gina Schiltz. Agree or disagree? Leave a comment below to contribute to a CFL power debate but remember your weights.
