Both Rajon Rondo and the Sacramento Kings have had a turbulent time last season to say the least. To put it lightly the former Boston Celtic did not see eye to eye with Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle, while the Kings had another very subpar season. It looks like the two are meant for each other, but there are two ways that this collaboration could turn out. By joining forces, this struggling franchise and this troubled player hope to turn things around and make some marked improvement from this point out. Or, this could add to the fire and disarray that has been the Sacramento Kings organization for the past few years. Spectators are leaning toward the latter.
Rajon Rondo and the Sacramento Kings: Match made in Heaven?
On July 3, 2015, Rondo agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract with the Kings. He hopes to find success in his new home and the Kings believe that he can be a key player who can help them achieve some semblance of a decent season. The Sacramento Kings were the third worst team in the Western Conference and Rondo has had a disastrous spell with Dallas in 2014-2015. One would think that this is a situation where things cannot possibly get much worse for either party. So there is still hope that this partnership could actually produce some positive results.
In the former four-time All-Star’s short stay in Dallas, he constantly quarreled with Carlisle, his productivity diminished, and his numbers plummeted. He was even suspended for one game due to a verbal altercation with Carlisle. This past NBA season, Rondo averaged 9.3 points, 6.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and a shot a putrid 45.2 percent from the free throw line in 46 games played. His ineffectiveness has been on display and it will be hard to say whether he will be the same player that he once was.
Kings Head Coach George Carl is no stranger to mercurial personalities on his roster. Speaking of which, currently, there has been some tension between him and prized center DeMarcus Cousins. Not to mention, point guard Darren Collison has also previously expressed his displeasure amidst the rumors swirling around in free agency. If things continue at this rate, tempers will flare and things will get ugly real fast. It appears that the NBA’s most temperamental team just acquired the trigger that can make the already unstable state of the franchise implode in a matter of moments.
