Streaming Pitchers: 6/14/2015

I’m going to get into a little no-hitter talk in a bit with the first of our streaming pitchers, but first I want to talk about streaming in general. It’s all about the gut. As scientific as I’ve tried to make it before, at the end of the day you have to look at the data in front of you and just decide, from the pit of your stomach, who is going to work for you that day. At the end of the day, if your gut is telling you to go with one guy and you end up going with another because it looks safer, you just might end up seeing that guy your gut was telling you to go with succeed and your safe pick fail. At least if your gut guy fails, you can say, “Hey, that was my guy. He just didn’t have it today.” Always follow your gut. I mean, it’s in front of you anyway. Now, on to tomorrow’s streaming pitchers!

Chris Heston RHP SFG (vs. ARI)

How in the world did I miss Chris Heston? I’ve featured him on these pages before, and he’s a personal favorite of mine. I don’t know what kind of red flag popped up in my notes that said you shouldn’t take him, since the Mets are no powerhouse on offense. Regardless, I’m happy for him and was overjoyed to get to watch his last few innings courtesy of MLB Network. Those that are concerned about a no-hitter hangover should check out this article by Scott Spratt on FanGraphs.com (http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/scotts-miscellany-the-start-after-a-no-hitter/). I’d invite you to read that whole article, as it’s quite interesting. The main jist is that there is no correlation in difference in play, positive or negative, after a no-hitter. I would then consider going ahead and playing hime at home against Arizona. The D-Backs are below average against righties (94 wRC+) and on the road (96 wRC+), and pitching in spacious AT&T Park should quelch any homers that the Snakes try to launch. Stream away!

Nate Karns RHP TB (vs CWS)

Frequent guest Nate Karns appears on the list again today, as he gets a groovy matchup at home against the White Sox. I said here yesterday that if you can get the Sox away from the Cell, especially if you can get them into a fly ball swallowing park like Tropicana Field, you gotta go for it. He’s had some bad outings against the Angels (both of his last two), but if he can go back to the way it was before, there’s some good skills there. Before the starts against the Angels, he went 3-2 with a 3.32 ERA, an 8.37 K/9, a 3.79 BB/9, and a 47.4% ground ball rate. He’s worth the risk to stream here.

Good luck and happy streaming!
