Are you streaming pitchers? Looking for a starter for a spot start? Here’s a couple low-owned options that might be on your waiver wire.
Streaming Pitchers: 6/4/14
Anthony DeSclafani RHP CIN (@ PHI)
Anthony DeSclafani has let you down. Or he’s let another owner in your league down. So he’s sitting on your waiver wire. But DeSclafani might be better than you think. The problem has been when he loses his control of his pitches. And if you look at his game log, he had a five game stretch where he seemed to completely lose his control. Once he got it back he went back to his ground balling, low walking ways, with his ERA following suit. In fact, if you take his season numbers without those games, he has an ERA of 1.32, a K/9 of 6.09, and a BB/9 of 2.12. The K’s aren’t what you might want from a regular starter, but they’re just enough that, with his other stats, he’s a great option to stream on most nights. Tomorrow night he gets to pick on the Phillies’ terrible offense, who post just a 72 wRC+ at home and just a 67 wRC+ against righties. If you need spot starts for the rest of the season and you need to know who to start against, look no further than the Phillies. DeSclafani gets a good one here, so you need to take advantage if you can.
Steven Wright RHP BOS (vs MIN)
I would try to make a Steven Wright joke, but I don’t think it would come across really well on the web. Plus, I’m also just not good at his style of jokes anyway. After all, it’s all in the delivery. But hey, it’s all about the delivery for Steven Wright the pitcher too! He’s a knuckleball pitcher, and much like current knuckleball master R.A. Dickey, he throws it harder than your average knuckleball. He’s got the matchup working for him tomorrow, too. The Twins only hit a wRC+ of 72 on the road and only 86 against righties. He’s been solid in his few starts so far, and with the right matchup he’s definitely worth the look.
