I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “buyer’s remorse” before. Buyer’s remorse is an emotional response on the part of a buyer in a sales transaction, which may involve feelings of regret, fear, depression or anxiety. And for fantasy owners, this probably rings true with some players we’ve drafted. That could very well be the case with some of these pitchers on display today. They were guys who were hyped at the beginning of the season who at the very least could provide solid back end help on your fantasy rotations. Either they haven’t pitched to expectations, or they’ve thrown some duds for starts, making the old owner want to cut bait and move on. These guys are perfect to use for streaming pitchers, since they have the skills to start, but they need the matchups to get the most potential out of them. Here are our streaming pitchers for tomorrow.
Streaming Pitchers: 5/31/15
Chase Anderson RHP ARI (@ MIL)
Chase Anderson has some good pitcher skills. Throughout the minors he posted K rates in the mid-20’s and demonstrated good control. His K rate lessened a bit once he got to the majors last year, and his BB rate went up a bit as well. Still, with the minor league track record, everyone assumed his stats would start going in a positive trend this year. Well, the ground ball rate is up from 39.9% to 43.8%. And the walk rate is down from 8.2% to 6.3%. The strikeout rate is down, but that might be intentional. It looks a little like he’s started using his two-seamer and changeup more to induce more weak contact and groundouts. This article from Eno Sarris seems to kind of suggest that is at least what he is going for. And it’s worked to his advantage, as his ERA so far this year is at 2.59 and his FIP is at 3.13. His skills allow him to keep his ERA, FIP, and so far his WHIP down to very useful levels, even at Chase Field. So, even with him going to Miller Park in mind, his matchup against the struggling Brewers offense (82 wRC+ at home, 79 wRC+ against righties) should be a very good one.
Jesse Chavez RHP OAK (vs. NYY)
Jesse Chavez had a great stint as a reliever early this year, but many wondered if he could make the transition back to a starter. But since his move to the starting rotation on April 23, he has produced a 2.80 ERA and a 3.02 FIP, with a 7.20 K/9 and a 2.80 BB/9, leaving a solid impression as a starter so far. He’ll be called on to start against the Yankees at home, and even though they hit well against righties (104wRC+), they don’t do so well outside of Yankee Stadium (96 wRC+), and so pitching in O.co should help Jesse have a good start here.
Drew Hutchison RHP TOR (@ MIN)
But since his terrible starts at Boston and Cleveland, he’s produced four solid starts, where he has posted a 2.36 ERA, 9.45 K/9, and 1.35 BB/9. That’s ace type stuff right there. A 2.06 FIP and 2.52 xFIP back up those gaudy ERA numbers. With the Twins hitting a wRC+ of 84 against righties, and getting to pitch in the pitcher-friendly Target Field, I say Hutch is a go, though be warned that the Twins have unexpectedly hit a solid 115 wRC+ at home. I still say go for it.
