Lebrun’s tweet, sent on Wednesday, explains that the Sharks are indeed ready to bring DeBoer and an announcement will be made by the end of this week.
Sharks set to hire Peter DeBoer as new Head Coach
After mutually agreeing to part ways with Todd McLellan, the Sharks have been in the hunt for a new head coach. McLellan has since moved on to the Edmonton Oilers, joining the team on May 19th after spending seven seasons with the Sharks, and with Mike Babcock joining the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ken Hitchcock remaining in St. Louis for another year, the Sharks options have become limited in just a short amount of time.
Peter DeBoer has spent the last four seasons as part of the New Jersey Devils coaching staff. After 36 games last season, DeBoer was fired. He had helped the team reached the Stanley Cup Finals in the 2011-12 season, but it would be the only time DeBoer would reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs as Devils head coach. DeBoer also spent three seasons in Florida, as the head coach of the Panthers, from 2008-2011.
In parts of seven seasons with the Panthers and Devils, DeBoer has compiled a record of 217-200-77 in 494 games as head coach.
Prior to working in the NHL, DeBoer was a highly successful head coach with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League.
The Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils continue to search for new head coaches this off-season.
